چکیده
Abstract. Spaceborne observations of polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) with the Cloud-Aerosol LIdar Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP) aboard Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations (CALIPSO) satellite provide a comprehensive picture occurrence Arctic Antarctic PSCs as well their microphysical properties. However, advances in understanding PSC microphysics also require measurements ground-based instruments, which are often superior to CALIOP terms of, for example, time resolution, measured parameters, signal-to-noise ratio. This advantage is balanced by location dependence on tropospheric cloudiness. CALIPSO during boreal winters from December 2006 February 2018 austral 2012 2015 used assess effect cloudiness other measurement-inhibiting factors representativeness lidar Antarctic, respectively. متن کاملAnalysis of the Physical State of One Arctic Polar Stratospheric Cloud Based on Observations
During the Arctic Airborne Stratospheric Expedition, simultaneous measurements of aerosol size distribution and NOy (HNO 3+ NO + NO 2 + 2.N20 5) were made along ER-2 flight paths. The flow characteristics of the NOy instrument allow us to derive the condensed NOy amount (assumed tobe HNO3) present during polar stratospheric cloud (PSC) events. Analysis of the January 24th flight indicates that ...

Lidar measurements from the recent SAGE III Ozone Loss and Validation Experiment (SOLVE) have been used to identify the number of classes of Polar Stratospheric Clouds (PSCs) and their corresponding characteristics. The backscatter lidar, flown aboard a DC8 aircraft, measures profiles of backscatter at 532 nm and 1064 nm, and depolarization at 532 nm. These data along with the color ratio were ...

The submodel PSC of the ECHAM5/MESSy Atmospheric Chemistry model (EMAC) has been developed to simulate the main types of polar stratospheric clouds (PSC). The parameterisation of the supercooled ternary solutions (STS, type 1b PSC) in the submodel is based on Carslaw et al. (1995b), the thermodynamic approach to simulate ice particles (type 2 PSC) on Marti and Mauersberger (1993). For the forma...

The Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS) on ENVISAT has made extensive measurements of polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) in the northern hemisphere winter 2002/2003. A PSC detection method based on a ratio of radiances (the cloud index) has been implemented for MIPAS and is validated in this study with respect to ground-based lidar and space borne occultation measur...
